Training for a Yacht Race
When it comes to training for a yacht race, it’s necessary to do it properly or only failure can be guaranteed. Make sure that the vessel is in good condition, make sure that a comprehensive yachts insurance plan is taken out, and prepare to train for months in advance. Below are just some of the ways to prepare for a boat race.
Seminars and Schools
For beginners and veterans alike, schools and seminars are great for preparing for a race. They may not teach people how to do everything, but they definitely offer some useful tips when it comes to racing. These courses and lectures are easy to find as most boating centres will either offer them or will know where their members can find these educational events.
Train in All Weathers
Most, if not all, races take place in the summer. Racing in winter is dangerous due to the fact that the conditions can change at any time. But just because no races are taking place shouldn’t mean that training shouldn’t go on. Training in the off-season can take place practically anywhere. It can either take place directly on the water or in a swimming pool. For example, some competitors practice their paddling strokes in a heated pool to catch small mistakes and stay in peak physical condition.
Tactics

That’s right, tactics are a big part about being successful when it comes to a yacht race. It’s unwise to just rely on training and peak physical conditioning when it comes to racing.
The best way to get one’s tactics in order is to first look at what everybody else is doing. Identify the main competitors and try to obtain some videos from their previous races. This will either demonstrate a specific pattern to how they approach a race or it will reveal their regular formations and strategies. Master these and then it becomes easy to find a counter to these tactics.
